The President's nominee for Labor Secretary withdrew last week and below we take a quick look at the history of the Department of Labor and why that withdrawal is an important win, even as a new nominee has been named.

Two events happened in the last week that we want to bring to your attention: Martin Luther King day was last Monday and the Inauguration of President Donald Trump was on Friday.
There will be much to say about the presidency of Donald Trump in the coming years. For today, we'll focus on MLK Day, a celebration of someone who was a friend to labor.

There are many of us who are not looking back at 2016 with any sort of fondness. From the deaths of favorite musicians and actors, to record high temperatures world wide, to the culmination of a political season that has been just hurtful to so many, 2016 has not been a good year.
What that means is that 2017 needs to be a year where we find common ground as workers and Union members. This isn't time to give up, it is time to get started.
